In the delight and the chaos of the holidays, winter seems to have sneaked in, softly calling us to burrow down and enjoy the more indoor — and inward — pursuits. Now is a time for resolutions, and for revolutions. How will we grow in the coming year, and what do we hope to bring about?
For RAWK, those aspirations are always icicle clear: We will grow together and because of one another, and we will bring about new ways to do so. Two events on the near horizon sparkle with just such opportunity.
RAWK the Mic — You’ve got a story to tell. Maybe it’s sad, funny, inspiring, unbelievable? Whatever it is, it’s yours, and we want to hear it. RAWK the Mic is a chance for high school students to develop a personal narrative and share on stage in front of a live audience. Workshops begin January 9, see our calendar for details. Be heard.
Write On! RAWK On! 2016 — Back again, it's a warm and wild way for all ages to ring in the new year together. WORO is our daylong writing party, and an opportunity for all of us to raise money to support literacy in our community. Just like a walk-a-thon, participants register individually or in a group, collect pledges from friends and family, then spend the day writing with RAWK. Cool prompts, great prizes, weird visitors, and fun friends await. And — new this year! — if you're out of town (or would rather RAWK in the quiet of your own home) but still want to participate, register to give yourself the gift of hours of uninterrupted writing while supporting dynamic literacy programs for youth in Kalamazoo. Fill out a registration and collect pledges, and we'll send you a gift for participation. Write On! RAWK On! is January 30, so register today and start collecting pledges!
As we hibernate and dive into our 2016 reading lists, we know we'll need to come up for air and connect with community, to bring in some light and warmth. Join us for RAWK the Mic and Write On! RAWK On!, and we'll RAWK those winter blues away.
