Much of what happens at RAWK is due in great part to the dedicated volunteers who keep things moving and shaking. After a short summer break we continue to celebrate the people who contribute to our organization with our RAWKstar of the Month feature. Brittany came to us enthusiastic and ready to help in any capacity, and that's exactly what she does. She helps maintain content for us on social media and she's often at our workshops connecting with our students. We couldn't be more grateful for the gentle, passionate and inspired human being she is, and all that she brings to RAWK. A RAWKstar for life, we're stoked to introduce you to Brittany Worthington.

How'd you hear about RAWK?: Through (RAWK board member) Meg Tang!
In what capacity have you volunteered with RAWK?: I've volunteered at workshops and special events and I contribute to RAWK's Facebook page.
What's the most meaningful part of volunteering with RAWK?: Connecting with the kids and seeing them realize how fun, versatile, and meaningful writing can be. There is so much laughter in every RAWK workshop I've attended, it's infectious.
What future RAWK events do you look forward to getting involved with?: Any and all! I think the Readers' Theater workshop would be really fun.
Why do you volunteer with RAWK?: Reading and writing was such an important part of my growing up and has really shaped who I am today. I also love working with kids, they make me laugh and inspire me to be more brave and open in life and in my own writing. I volunteer because I want to make an impact, no matter how small, and help instill an enthusiasm for written words in the youth of our community. I hope that I can help the act of reading and writing mean just as much to at least one child as it does to me.
If you could be a genre of writing, what would you be?: Memoir. It's my favorite genre to read. I tend to be pretty self-reflective and like to use past experiences to connect with people.
Favorite book and/or author?: HARRY POTTER! But also Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides, and so many others!
Any humorous/touching/inspiring RAWK moments you'd like to share?: So often the kids are apprehensive to share their work with the group, but slowly, one by one, EVERYONE wants to share. I love seeing the kids overcome that initial fear of judgement and then have such enthusiastic confidence in their writing. I aspire to emulate that same attitude.
