We believe the success of every youth relies on an invested community. We couldn't do what we do without the support from a team of volunteers who work with youth and/or behind the scenes at RAWK.
Check out our list of needs and consider volunteering with us.
RAWK Readers’ Room
This in school program supports classrooms at Lincoln Elementary and meets varying weekdays with different classrooms focusing on innovative, engaging literacy and curriculum support. Volunteers work with students one-on-one or in small groups supporting and encouraging student confidence in reading and/or writing.
RAWK After School
Students from El Sol come to our literacy center and we go to Lincoln Elementary twice a week to support students in their homework, reading, and creative writing through our Social-Emotional Learning approach which helps students create positive relationships with supportive adults, their peers, and learn empathy. Volunteers serve as tutors and positive mentors with the students one-on-one or in small groups on homework and creative projects.
Storytelling & Bookmaking Field Trips
Our field trips are an exciting way we serve full classrooms in our literacy center. We offer the full spectrum of the writing process in one morning, from brainstorm to published book! We focus on 3rd-5th grade classrooms that demonstrate need of literacy support.
Are you an organized planner? A people person? From fundraisers to tabling events and Art Hops, we always need help with planning, setting up, and support during and after the event.
More of a behind-the-scenes person? There's much to be done, and we'd love your help. Helping keep the office and storefront organized, thank you letters, cleaning the literacy center.
We're always on the hunt for professional graphic designers, photographers, videographers, snake charmers, and website gurus. Whatever your special skill is, we're sure we could put it to good use and are grateful for all of those that can help in this area.
We offer 2-3 hour long weekend workshops on various exciting themes throughout the year. We often partner up with organizations, makers, teachers, crafters, etc. to offer even more workshops. We've been on hikes at the Nature Center and trips to NOVA VR to explore worlds through technology. Come along with us and volunteer as a facilitator or writing coach. Have an idea for a workshop? Send us your idea!
RAWK's fun, playful storefront, The Geological & Musicological Survey Co., needs volunteer shopkeepers. Experience with retail is a plus, but we're happy to train you. Come talk about RAWK, and sell earthly oddments, musical miscellany, and bookish supplies.
