Volunteer Opportunities

We believe the success of every student relies on an invested community. We couldn't do what we do without the support from a team of volunteers who work with youth and support the behind-the-scenes needs of our growing organization.

Check out our list of needs and consider volunteering with us.

In-School Programs

  • RAWK Writers' Room — Maple Street middle school: meets Mondays and Tuesdays providing writing support for classrooms of all content areas, grades 6 - 8.
  • RAWK Readers' Room — Lincoln Elementary: meets Wednesdays and Thursdays with a classroom of 2nd grade students focusing on innovative and engaging reading support.

After school homework help

Maple Street's RAWK Writers' Room is our first satellite after school writing program. On Mondays and Tuesdays students receive tutoring support with their homework, and then work on an extended writing project. (Think magazines, writing and filming short movies ... )

Field Trips

Our field trips are an exciting way we serve full classrooms in our writing center. We offer the full spectrum of the writing process in one morning, from brainstorm to published book! In this pilot year of the program, we are focusing on 3rd - 5th grade classrooms that demonstrate a high need of literacy support.

Special Events

Are you an organized planner? A people person? From our annual write-a-thon fundraiser to tabling events and Art Hops, we always need help with planning, setting up, and support during the event.

Office Support

More of a behind-the-scenes person? There's much to be done, and we'd love your help. Helping keep the office and storefront organized, thank you letters, cleaning. We're a nice bunch to work with, we promise.

Special Skills

We're always on the hunt for professional graphic designers, photographers, snake charmers, and website gurus. Whatever your special skill is, we're sure we could use it. Interested? Great. Contact victoria@readandwritekzoo.org directly, please.

Thematic Workshops

We partner up with organizations, students, makers, teachers, crafters, etc. to offer exciting S.T.E.A.M.-based thematic workshops. We've been on hikes at the Nature Center and trips to NOVA VR to explore worlds through technology. Come along with us and volunteer. Have an idea for a workshop? Send us your idea!

Storefront shift

RAWK's fun, playful storefront, The Geological & Musicological Survey Co., needs volunteer shopkeepers. Experience with retail is a plus, but we're happy to train you. Come talk about RAWK, and sell earthly oddments, musical miscellany, and bookish supplies.
