DESCRIPTION:Your favorite monthly virtual program is back…\nOh yes\, it’s Read And Write Night!\nKalamazoo County youth in grades K–5 are invited to join RAWK volunteers and volunteers from the Western Michigan University chapter of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association to share our monthly picture book title. Working in small groups\, we will read aloud and then respond to the story with using engaging and creative prompts that encourage us to discuss\, write\, and draw! After small group time\, we’ll have a chance to share our responses with the whole group. \nHear a perspective that is new to you\, enjoy reading together\, express your ideas\, and find power in the written word. \nAll Read and Write Nights will take place via Google Meet. \nEach participating family will receive a copy of our monthly book prior to the event\nThis month’s session is open to 16 families \n\nRegistration opens on October 11th\nClick here to register\nour November title is Jingle Dancer\nwritten by Cynthia Leitich Smith and illustrated by Cornelius Van Wright & Ying-Hwa Hu \nThe cone-shaped jingles sewn to Grandma Wolfe’s dress sing tink\, tink\, tink\, tink… \nJenna loves the tradition of jingle dancing that has been shared by generations of women in her family and intertribal community. She hopes to dance at the next powwow. But with the day quickly approaching\, she has a problem—how will her dress sing if it has no jingles? \nThe affirming story of how a contemporary Native American girl turns to her family and community to help her dance find a voice. \n\n\n\n
