DESCRIPTION:Your favorite monthly virtual program is back…\nOh yes\, it’s Read And Write Night!\nKalamazoo County youth in grades K–5 are invited to join RAWK volunteers and volunteers from the Western Michigan University chapter of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association to share our monthly picture book title. Working in small groups\, we will read aloud and then respond to the story with using engaging and creative prompts that encourage us to discuss\, write\, and draw! After small group time\, we’ll have a chance to share our responses with the whole group. \nHear a perspective that is new to you\, enjoy reading together\, express your ideas\, and find power in the written word. \nAll Read and Write Nights will take place via Google Meet. \nEach participating family will receive a copy of our monthly book prior to the event\nThis month’s session is open to 16 families \n\nRegistration opens on October 16th\nClick here to register\nOur November title is We Are Grateful: Otsaliheliga\nwritten by Tracee Sorell and illustrated by Frané Lessac \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Cherokee community is grateful for blessings and challenges that each season brings. This is modern Native American life as told by an enrolled citizen of the Cherokee Nation. \nThe word otsaliheliga (oh-jah-LEE-hay-lee-gah) is used by members of the Cherokee Nation to express gratitude. Beginning in the fall with the new year and ending in summer\, follow a full Cherokee year of celebrations and experiences. Written by a citizen of the Cherokee Nation\, this look at one group of Native Americans is appended with a glossary and the complete Cherokee syllabary\, originally created by Sequoyah. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n
