Working in small groups\, we will read aloud and then respond to the story with using engaging and creative prompts that encourage us to discuss\, write\, and draw! After small group time\, we’ll have a chance to share our responses with the whole group. \nHear a perspective that is new to you\, enjoy reading together\, express your ideas\, and find power in the written word. \nAll Read and Write Nights will take place via Google Meet. \nEach participating family will receive a copy of our monthly book prior to the event\nThis month’s session is open to 16 families \n\nRegistration opens on October 11th\nClick here to register\nour November title is Jingle Dancer\nwritten by Cynthia Leitich Smith and illustrated by Cornelius Van Wright & Ying-Hwa Hu \nThe cone-shaped jingles sewn to Grandma Wolfe’s dress sing tink\, tink\, tink\, tink… \nJenna loves the tradition of jingle dancing that has been shared by generations of women in her family and intertribal community. She resents that they get the entire living room with a view of the George Washington Bridge\, while all she gets is a tiny bedroom with a view of her sister (who snores). Until one night when no one comes\, and it’s finally her chance! But as it turns out\, sleeping on the cot in the living room isn’t all she thought it would be. \nWith charming text by Hilda Eunice Burgos and whimsical illustrations by Gaby D’Alessandro\, The Cot in the Living Room is a celebration of the ways a Dominican American community takes care of one another while showing young readers that sometimes the best way to be a better neighbor is by imagining how it feels to spend a night sleeping on someone else’s pillow.

DESCRIPTION:July 10–14 – rising 4th & 5th grade Summer Writing Camp\nMonday–Friday from 1–5pm daily \nRAWK’s Summer Writing Camps take a deep dive into exploring and growing the power of each of our beautiful and distinctive voices. DESCRIPTION:Youth Leadership Camp 2023 will take place Monday\, June 26th–Friday\, June 30th from 1–5pm daily. \nYouth will spend the week of June 26th–30th with RAWK Executive Director Dr. Kandace Lavender\, focusing on exploring and honing their leadership and writing skills.\nAfter completing this week of workshop and training\, Youth Leaders will assist with one week of RAWK Summer Writing Camps. Leaders who complete both weeks of camp will receive a stipend that honors the time and energy they have given to their community. \n\n\n\n\nApplications are due by 10am on Wednesday\, May 17th!\nCandidates offered positions by May 22nd\nand must accept position offer by June 5th \nThere are 8 Youth Leader positions available.
