DESCRIPTION:Introducing RAWK First Saturdays Workshops and Open Studio Time for middle school and high school aged youth! \nOn the first Saturday of each month RAWK will offer a creative writing workshop from 12:00–1:30pm and then open studio time from 1:30–3:00pm \nApril First Saturdays Workshop – Magic Poetry\nCome cast some spells and disappear your fears through written word and spoken word poetry exercises in this 90 minutes workshop! Expect to read\, write and share if you’d like! No pressure… just come\, okay? \nFacilitated intergenerationally by a youth and adult ally. Youth can also expect to receive a list of opportunities to share their work in the future through the Kalamazoo Poetry Festival\, if they want to! \nThis partnership program is made possible by the Irving S. DESCRIPTION:Your favorite monthly virtual program is back…\nOh yes\, it’s Read And Write Night!\nKalamazoo County youth in grades K–5 are invited to join RAWK volunteers and volunteers from the Western Michigan University chapter of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association to share our monthly picture book title. Working in small groups\, we will read aloud and then respond to the story with using engaging and creative prompts that encourage us to discuss\, write\, and draw! After small group time\, we’ll have a chance to share our responses with the whole group. \nHear a perspective that is new to you\, enjoy reading together\, express your ideas\, and find power in the written word. \nAll Read and Write Nights will take place via Google Meet. \nEach participating family will receive a copy of our monthly book prior to the event\nThis month’s session is open to 16 families \n\nRegistration opens on March 13th\nClick here to register\n\nOur April title is When We Went Wild\nwritten by Isabella Tree and illustrated by Allira Tee \nNancy and Jake are farmers who raise cows and pigs\, and grow crops. They use a lot of big machines to help them\, and spray a lot of chemicals to get rid of the weeds and the pests. That’s what all good farmers do\, isn’t it? And yet\, there is no wildlife living on their farm. The animals look sad. Even the trees look sad! One day\, Nancy has an idea… what if they stopped using all the machines\, and all the chemicals\, and instead they went wild? \n\n\n\n\n
