DESCRIPTION:First Saturday workshops are returning to RAWK!\nWe’re bringing back RAWK First Saturdays Workshops and Open Studio Time for middle school and high school aged youth!\nOn the first Saturday of each month RAWK will offer a creative writing workshop from 12:00pm–1:30pm and then open studio time from 1:30pm–3:00pm\nThis workshop will look different than it has in the past. Each month will be centered around literacy support for our community. We have listened to your need for fun\, engaging ways to reignite youth’s love of reading. DESCRIPTION:Your favorite monthly virtual program is back…\nOh yes\, it’s Read And Write Night!\nKalamazoo County youth in grades K–5 are invited to join RAWK volunteers and volunteers from the Western Michigan University chapter of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association to share our monthly picture book title. Working in small groups\, we will read aloud and then respond to the story with using engaging and creative prompts that encourage us to discuss\, write\, and draw! After small group time\, we’ll have a chance to share our responses with the whole group. \nHear a perspective that is new to you\, enjoy reading together\, express your ideas\, and find power in the written word. \nAll Read and Write Nights will take place via Google Meet. \nEach participating family will receive a copy of our monthly book prior to the event\nThis month’s session is open to 16 families \n\nRegistration opens on February 18th\nClick here to register\nOur March title is I Talk Like a River \nwritten by Jordan Scott and illustrated by Sydney Smith \nWhat if words got stuck in the back of your mouth whenever you tried to speak? What if they never came out the way you wanted them to? Sometimes it takes a change of perspective to get the words flowing.\nWhen a boy who stutters feels isolated\, alone\, and incapable of communicating in the way he’d like\, it takes a kindly father and a walk by the river to help him find his voice.
