SUMMARY:Read And Write Nights - October 2024
DESCRIPTION:Your favorite monthly virtual program is back…\nOh yes\, it’s Read And Write Night!\nKalamazoo County youth in grades K–5 are invited to join RAWK volunteers and volunteers from the Western Michigan University chapter of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association to share our monthly picture book title. Working in small groups\, we will read aloud and then respond to the story with using engaging and creative prompts that encourage us to discuss\, write\, and draw! After small group time\, we’ll have a chance to share our responses with the whole group. \nHear a perspective that is new to you\, enjoy reading together\, express your ideas\, and find power in the written word. \nAll Read and Write Nights will take place via Google Meet. \nEach participating family will receive a copy of our monthly book prior to the event\nThis month’s session is open to 16 families \n\nRegistration is open now!\nClick here to register\nOur October title is Mi Casa is My Home\nwritten by Laurenne Sala and illustrated by Zara González Hoang \n\n\n\nLucia invites you to visit her bustling casa and meet an intergenerational array of loved ones in a charming Spanglish celebration of family life. \nEste es el baño…It’s where I shave my barba con Abuelo. \nBienvenidos to Lucía’s home. Lucía lives in her casa with her big\, loud\, beautiful familia\, and she’s going to show you around! From la puerta\, where Abuela likes to wave to the neighbors and wait for packages from Puerto Rico or Spain\, to la cocina\, where Lucía watches her Mamá turn empty pots into soups and arroces\, to el patio\, where Lucía and her cousins (and her cousin’s cousins!) put on magic shows\, Lucía loves her busy and cozy casa. With warmth and joy\, author Laurenne Sala and illustrator Zara González Hoang celebrate home in this bilingual picture book that feels like an abrazo from your most favorite people\, your familia. \n\n\n\n  \n
