Part-Time Program Coordinator Position


Reporting to the Director of Programs, the Program Coordinator (PC) schedules and implements all curriculum, program assessment, and volunteer management of a RAWK Readers’ Room as well as facilitates discussion and input on program needs from teachers, students, and school administration. This position is part-time (up to 15 hours per week) and is currently primarily work-from-home/remote, with in-person work to return slowly as it is safe to do so.


Founded in 2012, Read and Write Kalamazoo (RAWK) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization based in Kalamazoo, MI. RAWK exists to celebrate and amplify youth voices through the cultivation of reading and writing skills via joy, creativity, equity, and access. 

We bring a supportive community around young people to give them safe and positive spaces to learn and grow. Through the investment of the adults around them, young people begin to hear and know their own minds and voices and enact agency in their own lives. We act as a touchstone for families throughout the preschool and school years to foster a culture of literacy.


  • Facilitate RAWK Readers’ Room (RRR) curriculum  
  • Practice RAWK’s positive behavior method with students and volunteers 
  • Work with program partners to foster program growth and development
  • Communicate objectives and plans with RRR volunteers on Fridays weekly via email
  • Observe volunteer/student interactions to provide feedback and suggest practice improvement measures
  • Create and foster an atmosphere of safe and honest communication
  • Manage volunteer attendance, commitments, and problem solve together as needed with volunteers to make sure volunteers meet position needs and RAWK meets their needs
  • Assist Director of Programs in training of volunteers for the RRR
  • Develop and maintain organized catalogs and/or files of projects throughout the school year for publication
  • Facilitate and report assessment and feedback forms for students, volunteers and teacher partners


  • Possess an articulate, working knowledge of RAWK’s mission, vision, and programs
  • Personal and professional commitment to equity and anti-racism 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Provide customer service when in literacy center as storefront is open if no volunteer shopkeeper is on duty
  • Stay motivated and positive as well as ability to self-start, work alone, and as part of a small team
  • Take initiative for own tasks and sees relationship to the full organization’s success
  • Utilize, update, and reference the internal online office calendar for all individual and team scheduling needs
  • Work independently to complete tasks and projects established by self and Director of Programs
  • High attention to detail with the ability to create and maintain accurate records
  • Work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people and closely within a small organization
  • Represent RAWK in a friendly and professional manner in all interactions on and off site
  • Demonstrate initiative and positivity in all arenas
  • Respect the privacy of RAWK’s students, volunteers, and staff
  • Respect the confidentiality of RAWK’s internal documents and communication
  • Actively participate in all staff meetings
  • Actively participate in Standing or Special Committees as assigned by Executive Director
  • Actively participate in annual staff evaluation processes
  • Must be able to pass RAWK’s criminal and child abuse/neglect history check
  • All RAWK staff is responsible for cleaning and organizing of all RAWK shared spaces collectively


  • Associate Degree or equivalent experience in Education, English, or a related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet, social media platforms, and email communication including ability to gain proficiency in Google applications like G-Suite for Nonprofits, Gmail, and Google calendar
  • Unwavering commitment to delivering quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
  • Experience in facilitation and/or teaching youth, preferably in an elementary setting
  • Experience managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while working under time constraints
  • Strong organizational systems development and administration skills
  • Preference for fast-paced, self-starting work environment
  • Ability to listen to teachers and school staff and plan as a team


  • BA/BS/BFA or equivalent experience in Education, English, or a related field
  • Experience with editing and creative writing
  • 2 years of business and/or nonprofit experience
  • General experience with G-Suite for Nonprofits and/or Moodle
